  IceStone® Recycled Glass and Concrete

icestone pictureUsing IceStone® has already helped projects obtain their LEED points for the following reasons:

Recycled Content - The range of recycled content in the material is 70-75%. This number is taken from the weight of the product. It also uses pre-consumer waste as well as post-consumer.

500 Mile Radius - The product is made in Brooklyn, NY and therefore can fall within the regional materials guideline as long as the project is within 500 miles of Brooklyn, NY. It is also important to consider this number on a fabricator level.

No VOC's - the product has no volatile organic compounds. This is important for indoor air-quality.

Cradle to Cradle Certification
IceStone® is the only surface that has received Cradle to Cradle Certification. *"This certification means that they are using
environmentally safe and healthy materials: design for materials reutilization, such as recycling or composting; the use of
renewable energy and energy efficiency; efficient use of water, and maximum water quality associated with production; and
instituting strategies for social responsibility" (*MBDC website).

Besides being eco-friendly it also has a look and beauty unlike any other countertop in the market. It can be used office
kitchen areas, public and private bath areas, reception desks, windowsills, conference room desks, and other public areas. It
is also UV stable so it will not change color when exposed to sunlight.

 Care & Maintenance
You should clean the surface with mild soap and water. Because they could strip the sealer of your countertop you should
avoid using commercial, ammonia or beach-based cleaners. Breaking the sealer will make IceStone® susceptible to staining.
To avoid staining you should quickly wipe up spills quickly. Acids such as vinegar or lemon juice should not be left on the
surface of the counter for extended periods of time.

Keep off of the surface: abrasive cleaners, vinegar, lemon/citrus, wine, dark coffee, permanent marker/ink, rust/paint
removers, lacquer thinner, oven/metal/toilet/tile/drain cleaners, and nail polish remover.

It is suggested that you apply a carnauba wax product to the surface two to three times a year. This wax is very effective at
preventing coffee stains. The wax provides an additional barrier that provides you additional time to wipe up spills.

Recommended waxes (available at local hardware stores): Simple Green Stone Polish & Cheng's Concrete Countertop Wax

Sealers

Sealers should be re-applied every one-two years. To stay green friendly, it is recommended that you use sealers that are
also green in nature. These sealers should either be water-based or have a low-VOC level.
